Sydney-based Macquarie Technology Group (ASX: MAQ) and Macquarie University have flagged a strategic partnership to support future collaboration across research, technology and innovation.

The agreement will see the two organisations collaborate in areas including cloud computing, cyber security, data centre engineering, and technology policy.

Co-located in Sydney’s Macquarie Park Innovation District, the partnership aims to highlight the deepening interplay between industry and academia and will identify areas where shared expertise can contribute to Australia’s future digital capability and the creation of technology job pathways.

The collaboration will explore opportunities for joint research, industry engagement and knowledge exchange, drawing on Macquarie Technology Group’s experience in data centres, cloud, cyber security and telecommunications, and Macquarie University’s research strengths across science, technology, engineering, business and law.

“This partnership will provide Macquarie University students with the opportunity to have hands on experience working with new data centre and cloud technologies,” said David Tudehope, CEO and Co-founder of Macquarie Technology Group.

“Macquarie University students will graduate with the skills and experience that will ensure they are ready for the data centre and cloud jobs of the future that are so important for Australia,” he added.

“Through this partnership, Macquarie Data Centres looks forward to identifying areas for collaboration that draw on our expertise in the complex software, networking, electrical and mechanical systems that underpin modern data centres and cloud computing,” said David Hirst, Group Executive of Macquarie Data Centres.
